Let’s Get to Know Sean!

Story by Meredith Nelson / May 11, 2017

SPEAKING OF SEAN…..We sat down to chat!
We had a few minutes to spend with Sean recently and we found out what makes this great guy tick!PTF:  What motivates you to get to the gym?

Sean: My motivation is simple. BE BETTER! Better than I was yesterday, last year. Just show progression.

PTF:  What has helped you be successful at your attempts to stay in shape?

Sean:  Staying positive.  Even when life seems to knock me down, I learn from the experience.  I don’t get beat the same way twice!

PTF:  What do you like most about working out – and working! – at PrimeTime?

Sean:  Being in the Navy, I’ve worked out in the best gyms in the world. And I’ve worked out in the worst. I love the ‘family’ here at PrimeTime. To see the regular faces and welcome them daily is AWESOME!

PTF:  Tell us a little about your training background and how it has influenced you today.

Sean: As a civilian trainer, I’ve helped several folks reach their goals. It’s a bit different for military, where fitness is a must!

PTF:  What’s your favorite form of exercise (as if we don’t already know!)?

Sean: As everyone who sees me knows…KETTLEBELLS!

PTF:  What do you do when you are not exercising?  Got any hobbies?

Sean: My full-time position is a firefighter/EMT at Boeing South Carolina.  I love to cook and dabble in mixology. The kitchen is my favorite room in the house!PTF:  What do you do when you are not exercising?  Got any hobbies?

PTF:  Tell us about your family.

Sean:  I love my children.  They range in age from 9 to 25. They are my motivation . . . they are always looking to say “I beat Dad!”

PTF:  Is there something about you that not many people know and most would be surprised by?

Sean: I was a skateboarder for the majority of my life.  It made me the man I am today, as it gave me the courage and belief in myself to do anything I set my mind to.  My high school sport was not football or basketball, like most people would think – but bowling!  I was a nerd . . LOL!

PTF:  Do you have any words of wisdom for others?

Sean: Even if you are afraid to try something, tell yourself I can do this!”  And believe it.

PTF:  Why do you want to be in the 2018 Charleston Animal Society’s Firefighter Calendar?

Sean:  To be included in the calendar would be an honor.  But even more important is raising funds for animals and helping them find homes and receive necessary health care!  I want to give back in honor of a dog I adopted years ago… Neves was like a child to me.  Loved that dog . . .

And we love you, Sean!  Thanks for all you do.  We’ll be “pulling” for you on Saturday as you’re “PUSHING FOR PUPPIES!”

I worked out with Meredith for years before she (sadly) moved away. She is creative, fun, and great at correcting your form. She can adapt to injuries you might have. She will incorporate things you like (yoga) and can work with all types of exercise equipment from machines to bands to TRX to free weights to your body weight. No two workouts are the same, which means you do not get bored and you want to keep coming back!

Meredith first sought to truly understand my fitness goals and then observed my current weight-training routine.  She then helped me organize a workout plan that gave me better results, in the same amount of time.  Now I have a more balanced routine that is producing better results, in the same amount of time, with the same amount of effort. She always had my work within my comfort level and has helped me develop a more balanced program that maximizes the results.

I found my happy place at home with Meredith and Primetime Fitness.  I started virtual training with Meredith at the beginning of Covid and now virtual training is part of my weekly routine.  What a joy to get a great workout and not have to leave the house! Thanks, Meredith!

I’ve been taking Meredith’s classes for a few short months and also doing some training sessions with her, and it has already made me stronger.  I love that she offers lower-impact options (for this 58-year-old) and also motivates all of us during class!

I was recently diagnosed as a Type 2 Diabetic.  I had worked out with Meredith once before, but at the time, I just wasn’t dedicated to a routine.  As soon as I was diagnosed, I shot her a quick email, and she immediately responded. We met and discussed diet and exercise; she was a wealth of information. I started working out with her and figuring out what routine spoke best to me. She helped me set up a Peloton bike and monitored my form. Hey, if this 65-year-old woman can get in shape, anyone can. I’m 15 pounds down and on the right track. Thanks, Meredith!
